Shuhua “Steve” Zheng, DO, PhD, is a radiation oncologist with University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center who sees patients for neuro-oncology. Dr. Zheng joined UH Seidman Cancer Center in August 2026.

Dr. Zheng earned a PhD in Cancer Biology from the University of Miami (Miami, Florida) in 2017 and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Nova Southeastern University (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) in 2021. Dr. Zheng’s postdoctoral training included an internship in general surgery at San Joaquin General Hospital (French Camp, California) completed in 2022 and a residency in radiation oncology at Northwestern Memorial Hospital (Chicago, Illinois) completed in 2026. While at Northwestern Memorial, Dr. Zheng served as Chief Resident of radiation oncology from July 2025 to June 2026.

Dr. Zheng is passionate about radiation oncology research, including expanding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning for patient selection. He also runs laboratory research developing mechanism-based radiation sensitizers. His research for advancing the use of radiation oncology techniques in the treatment of primary brain tumors, brain metastases and other types of cancer has appeared in various peer-reviewed medical journals, including JAMA Network Open, Gynecologic Oncology, European Journal of Cancer and Neuro-Oncology Advances.

In addition to other honors and awards, Dr. Zheng is the recipient of the American Society of Clinical Oncology-Young Investigator Award in Primary Brain Tumors, 2024; Radiological Society of North America -Research Seed Grant, 2024; Brain Tumor SPORE (Specialized Program of Research Excellence) Career Enhancement Award, 2025; and American Society for Radiation Oncology 2025 Annual Meeting Travel Award, 2025.
