Samantha Pokorny, MS, MPH, LCGC, is a genetic counselor who specializes in both cancer and preconception genetics. She joined University Hospitals in March 2026. Pokorny is certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling and licensed by State Medical Board of Ohio and the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. In her current role as a Preconception/Oncology Genetic Counselor I, her responsibilities include:

• Counseling preconception patients on such topics as carrier screening, preimplantation genetic testing, familial conditions and test results related to these topics.

• Evaluating personal and family histories and providing guidance on hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, colorectal cancer and polyposis syndromes, among other hereditary cancer conditions.

As an undergraduate, Pokorny attended the University of Georgia (Athens, Georgia), where she earned a Bachelor of Science in genetics with a minor in biology in 2021, graduating magna cum laude. She went on to attend the University of Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), where she earned a Master of Public Health in public health genetics and a Master of Science in genetic counseling, finishing summa cum laude in both programs in 2025.

Prior to joining University Hospitals, Pokorny’s professional experience included an appointment as an Oncology Genetic Counseling Assistant at Allegheny Health Network (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) from June 2021 to February 2026; and a genetic counseling internship at UPMC Hospitals (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) from May 2024 to April 2025.
