About
Marie Kuchynski, MD, has dual roles at University Hospitals as a senior attending physician in the Division of Rheumatology as well as Regional Medical Director of the Primary Care Institute. She completed her medical degree at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine, and completed her internal medicine residence and rheumatology fellowship at University Hospitals.
Dr. Kuchynski has a broad range of interests in the field of rheumatology that include rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and osteoporosis. She is particularly interested in the intersection of rheumatic diseases and their role in cardiovascular risk and other medical diseases. She continued to work in primary care for this reason – to help patients view their health in a holistic fashion and not just a silo of individual diseases.
Dr. Kuchynski has been involved with the Primary Care Institute at UH since its inception in 2016. There, she has been involved in many projects to help improve the quality of care throughout the primary care network and has worked on projects in collaboration with the UH accountable care organization, as well as improving the transition of care of pediatric patients with complex medical diseases into adult medicine.
Her passion is also patient experience of care. Since 2018, she has chaired the Primary Care Institute Patient Experience of Care committee and works closely with the patient experience team to help improve patient experience at every touchpoint within the system. She has helped guide the notion that improved patient experience leads to improved patient adherence to therapies, which then lead to improved patient outcomes and quality of care. That improved quality only enhances the patient experience.
Dr. Kuchynski is also very involved in her community and organizes an annual health fair at her local parish, St Joseph Church in Strongsville. Dr Kuchynski is married with two daughters. She loves Broadway theater, reading, baking and her Peloton. Find her on Twitter @doctorkuch for medically related research discussions.

Industry Relationships
University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. These practitioner-industry relationships assist in developing new drugs, devices and therapies and in providing medical education aimed at improving quality of care and enhancing clinical outcomes. At the same time, UH understands that these relationships may create a conflict of interest. In providing this information, UH desires to assist patients in talking with their practitioners about industry relationships and how those relationships may impact their medical care.
UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.

As of December 31, 2016, Marie Kuchynski did not disclose any Outside Relationships with Industry.
