About

Lisa Hackney, MD, is a pediatric hematologist-oncologist at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital. Her areas of expertise include pediatric oncology survivorship, pediatric oncology and pediatric hematology (particularly anemia, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia and red blood cell count disorders.) Among other honors and recognitions, Dr. Hackney has been named a Top Doctor by Cleveland Magazine multiple times.

For me, a career in pediatric hematology-oncology is much more than a job — it’s a deeply rewarding calling centered on caring for young patients, building our survivorship program and training the next generation of physicians. Across my journey at the University of Rochester, Cleveland Clinic and over the last decade at UH Rainbow, my focus has simply been to provide the best possible care while supporting our medical trainees. One of my favorite parts of this role is mentoring fellows and helping them grow into confident, compassionate specialists.

In my daily practice, I split my time between managing a diverse inpatient service and running an outpatient clinic focused on the long-term care of childhood cancer survivors. Throughout my career, I have always looked for ways to improve our clinical systems to better serve both our patients and our trainees. Over the years, this has included collaborating with teams to secure a St. Baldrick’s infrastructure grant at Rochester, as well as learning through leadership roles like directing the Fellowship Program and the Sickle Cell Program during my time at the Cleveland Clinic.

Since 2018, I have had the privilege of directing the Pediatric Oncology Survivorship Clinic at UH Rainbow. I work alongside an incredible multidisciplinary team dedicated to helping families navigate life after cancer treatment. Beyond our hospital, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) Long-Term Follow-Up Guidelines Committee, which allows me to bring international care standards directly into our local program to enrich both patient care and our fellowship training.
