Ryan Cox, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with University Hospitals Drusinsky Sports Medicine Institute (Beachwood, Ohio). Specializing in shoulder and elbow surgery, Dr. Cox sees patients at locations in Beachwood and Chardon, Ohio.

Dr. Cox attended John Carroll University (Cleveland, Ohio), where he earned a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, graduating magna cum laude. He attended medical school at Drexel University College of Medicine (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), earning his Doctor of Medicine. During medical school, he completed a research fellowship in the Shoulder and Elbow Division of The Rothman Orthopaedic Institute (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania). Dr. Cox did his orthopedic residency training at The Rothman Orthopaedic Institute/Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania). He further completed fellowship training in shoulder and elbow surgery at The Rothman Orthopedic Institute/Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania).

Dr. Cox has authored or co-authored over 30 research studies for a number of peer-reviewed medical journals, including Seminars in Arthroplasty, Shoulder and Elbow, Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (JSES), Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (JBJS), Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (JAAOS), Journal of Graduate Medical Education (JGME) and Arthroscopy Techniques. He also serves as a reviewer for JGME, JSES, JAAOS, and Shoulder and Elbow. Dr. Cox has delivered presentations, posters and abstracts at annual meetings hosted by the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES), American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), Eastern Orthopaedic Association and The Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons, among others. In addition, he has authored textbook chapters and other related publications in the field of shoulder and elbow surgery.

Dr. Cox is a member of the ASES, AAOS, and Mid-Atlantic Shoulder and Elbow Society. Among other honors and awards, he is the recipient of the Everett J. Gordan Award, 2023; OITE Award, 2023; EOEF Kevin D. Plancher, MD, MPH Travel Grant, 2022; Mark D. Chilton Award, 2021; Jerome M. Cotler and Phillip J. Marone, M.D. Award, 2020; and Oscar Corn, M.D. Award Excellence in Orthopaedic Surgery.
