About
Amanda L. Amin, MD, MS, FACS, FSSO is a native of the Chicagoland area and graduate of Loyola University Chicago. After receiving her medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in 2007, Dr. Amin completed her general surgery residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals (MCWAH) in 2013. While at MCW, she also did a surgical oncology research fellowship in 2011. She then returned to Chicago for her breast surgical oncology fellowship at Northwestern University (Illinois) in 2014. In 2019, she obtained a Master of Science in Clinical Research from University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC), with her thesis focusing on the de-escalation of surgical intervention for benign and high-risk breast lesions.
Dr. Amin was an assistant professor and breast surgical oncologist at the University of Kansas Health System before joining University Hospitals. As an educator at KUMC, she served as an instructor and mentor to medical students, residents, and fellows. In 2021, Dr. Amin joined University Hospitals in the role of Section Chief of Breast Surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology and the Department of Surgery as well as Co-Director of the Breast Cancer Program for UH Seidman Cancer Center.
Dr. Amin is board certified in general surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology. She belongs to multiple societies including the American College of Surgeons, Society of Surgical Oncology, American Society of Breast Surgeons, Association for Academic Surgery, and Association of Women Surgeons. Among other honors and awards, Dr. Amin is the recipient of the MS-CR Thesis Award (2019), the MCWAH 2001 Resident Research Award, and was a Frontiers: The Heartland Institute for Clinical and Translational Research Scholar (2015 – 2016).
Dr. Amin is dedicated to improving existing and developing new therapies for the management of high-risk and malignant breast disease through pioneering research. She is particularly interested in opportunities for de-escalation of surgical intervention for atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH) and ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). Dr. Amin has published research findings in Breast Cancer Research and Treatment, Annals of Surgical Oncology, Archives of Surgery, and Journal of the American College of Surgeons, among other major medical journals. In addition, she has contributed chapters to textbooks on high-risk breast disease and served as a manuscript reviewer for multiple high-impact medical journals.
