Cetin Akpolat, MD, is a pediatric ophthalmologist with University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. Dr. Akpolat sees patients at locations in Cleveland, Westlake, Cuyahoga Falls and Mayfield Heights, Ohio.

Dr. Akpolat graduated from medical school at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine (Ankara, Turkey) in 2009. For his postdoctoral training, he completed a residency in ophthalmology at Dr. Cemil Taşcıoğlu City Hospital (Istanbul, Turkey) in 2015, a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at Akron Children’s Hospital (Akron, Ohio) in 2024 and a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at Hamilton Eye Institute - University of Tennessee Health Science Center (Memphis, Tennessee) in 2025.

Following his residency, Dr. Akpolat began his medical career serving as an attending physician in emergency medicine at community hospitals in Agri and Elazig, Turkey. His professional experience also included practicing as an attending ophthalmologist at several leading healthcare institutions in Turkey, among them Bursa Veni Vidi Eye Center, Yedikule Surp Pirgic Armenian Hospital, Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital, and Siverek Community Hospital. Prior to joining University Hospitals in 2026, Dr. Akpolat served as an attending pediatric ophthalmologist at the University of Missouri (Columbia, Missouri).

As a physician-scientist, Dr. Akpolat has authored or co-authored research articles in the field of pediatric ophthalmology published in such peer-reviewed journals as Ocular Immunology and Inflammation, Indian Journal of Ophthalmology, Therapeutic Advances in Ophthalmology, Clinical and Experimental Optometry, International Ophthalmology and Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology. He has delivered oral presentations, poster presentations and abstracts at annual meetings and symposiums held by the European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons, European Association for Vision and Eye Research, and Turkish Ophthalmological Association, among other professional organizations.
