About
Richard J. Tonelli, MD, is a fellowship-trained pulmonary and critical care medicine physician at University Hospitals. He is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease and critical care medicine and is an Assistant Professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
Dr. Tonelli earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering at Grove City College and his medical degree at Northeast Ohio Medical University. He completed his residency training at MetroHealth Medical center/Case Western Reserve University, where he served as chief resident. He went on to complete a pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship at MetroHealth.
Dr. Tonelli’s professional interests include clinical informatics and quality improvement. He has participated in numerous regional and local presentations, serving as a facilitator for the Lung Cancer Screening Symposium and presenting at Grand Rounds, Morbidity and Mortality conferences and other meetings. He has also worked on numerous quality improvement projects focusing on areas such as pulmonary function testing, telemetry and simulation center training.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Tonelli’s interests include home improvement and remodeling projects, running and soccer.
