About

Robert Asante Okyere, MD, is a cardiologist and advanced cardiac imaging specialist at University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute.

Dr. Okyere earned his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He then completed an internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland, followed by fellowships in cardiovascular medicine and advanced cardiac imaging at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center/Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Okyere also holds a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. In addition, he earned several awards for clinical and professional excellence throughout his training, recognizing his dedication to patient care and research.

Dr. Okyere is highly skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of the full range of cardiovascular conditions, including coronary artery disease, heart rhythm disorders, heart valve disease, aortic disease, peripheral artery disease and congestive heart failure. As a physician-researcher, he also investigates novel medical therapies and the impact of patient demographics on conditions like high blood pressure, metabolic syndrome, myocardial damage and heart failure.

Dr. Okyere’s research has been published in prominent medical journals. He has also served as peer reviewer of medical content for the Journal of Hospital Medicine and the International Journal of Cardiology.

An avid volunteer, Dr. Okyere has more than a decade of experience in various volunteer roles, including tutoring middle school students in his church, mentoring and exposing students to medicine through a youth science enrichment program, and seeing patients in free clinics that serve uninsured and underserved residents. He is a founding member of Medical Students for Africa, a student organization with a mission of uniting American medical professionals toward the goal of improving the health of African communities around the world.

In his spare time, Dr. Okyere enjoys playing soccer, reading books and watching documentaries on history, science and different cultures.

At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. These practitioner-industry relationships assist in developing new drugs, devices and therapies and in providing medical education aimed at improving quality of care and enhancing clinical outcomes. At the same time, UH understands that these relationships may create a conflict of interest. UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
