About

Charles O’Shaughnessy, MD, FACC, FAHA, FSCAI, is an interventional cardiologist at University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute, directing cardiac catheterization services at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center.

Dr. O’Shaughnessy earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo. His postdoctoral training included a residency in internal medicine at Akron City Hospital followed by a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at University Hospitals of Cleveland. He is board certified in both internal medicine and cardiovascular disease.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. O’Shaughnessy has 20 years of service as a member of multiple scientific advisory boards and speaker bureaus related to innovations in percutaneous coronary interventions. He has also been very active in medical research over the past 30 years with participation in nearly 80 clinical studies that evaluated the effectiveness of various medications and minimally invasive interventions to treat coronary artery disease. He has made contributions to the medical field with publications as well, authoring a significant number of articles in prominent journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Invasive Cardiology, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Cardiovascular Interventions, European Heart Journal and more.

Dr. O’Shaughnessy is a member of respected national organizations including the American College of Physicians and American Heart Association. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), Council of Clinical Cardiology in the American Heart Association and the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Intervention (SCAI).

Dr. O’Shaughnessy has dedicated most of his medical career to serving patients in Elyria and surrounding communities as part of North Ohio Heart. He has extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with both common and complex heart conditions, including coronary artery disease, heart arrythmias such as atrial fibrillation and heart valve disease.

Dr. O’Shaughnessy has been recognized as a Top Doctor by Cleveland Magazine, a Best Doctor in America by Castle Connolly and a Strathmore’s Who’s Who.
