About
Sami Moufawad, MD, earned his medical degree from Lebanese University in 1994 and completed a one-year surgical internship in 1995. After coming to the U.S., he completed a surgical internship at Washington Hospital Center (Washington, DC) in 1996 before completing a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in1999. Following his residency, Dr. Moufawad completed an interventional pain management fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in 2000.
After working in a private practice in Delaware for four years, Dr. Moufawad moved back to Cleveland and worked as staff at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation Pain Management Center between 2004 and 2006. He then joined University Hospitals, where he established pain management programs at UH’s regional hospitals in Bedford and Richmond Heights, serving as Medical Director for pain management services between 2006 and 2022.
Dr. Moufawad’s areas of interest are work- and sports-related injuries, mainly spinal, musculoskeletal and painful neurological conditions, including neuropathies and complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). He specializes in conservative treatment from acupuncture to more invasive treatment modalities, including a variety of spinal interventions such as radio frequency ablation and neuro augmentation with spinal cord stimulation.
Dr. Moufawad has published several papers related to pain management and has lectured at a number of national pain management conferences.
