About

Claudia Lewis, PA-C, is an endocrinology physician assistant at University Hospitals Diabetes and Metabolic Care Center. She is a team member of University Hospital’s Diabetes and Obesity Center, as well as the inpatient Diabetes Management Team. Her collaboration with University Hospital’s Meds2Beds program has allowed to increase access to diabetes medications and supplies for patients before leaving the hospital. Claudia sees patients twice per month in a post-hospital discharge clinic.

Claudia attended The Ohio State University and received a Bachelor of Science in Health and Rehabilitation, with a minor in Human Nutrition in 2019. Her research experience at The Ohio State University includes serving as co-investigator and President's Prize semi-finalist for developing a simulation platform for diabetes self-management and technology education. She received her Master of Medical Science, Physician Assistant Studies, at Wake Forest School of Medicine in 2022.

Claudia has spoken nationally at the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists conference on empowering young adults with diabetes and evidence-based resources for young adult support. Claudia's work has been recognized, including as a College Diabetes Network NextGen Leader and the recipient of the 2022 DiabetesMine Patient Voices scholarship.

Her current research interests include social determinants of health, technology use and quality of life in people with diabetes, particularly young adults with type 1 diabetes. Her clinical interests include inpatient diabetes management and diabetes technology. Claudia has been featured and published in a number of publications and presentations regarding diabetes care.

Claudia’s passion is connecting with people with diabetes and providing them with education and support to help them live their highest quality life.

Industry Relationships

University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. These practitioner-industry relationships assist in developing new drugs, devices and therapies and in providing medical education aimed at improving quality of care and enhancing clinical outcomes. At the same time, UH understands that these relationships may create a conflict of interest. In providing this information, UH desires to assist patients in talking with their practitioners about industry relationships and how those relationships may impact their medical care.

UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
