Dr. Sarah Frances Keller, MD, MA, is the Rheumatology Fellowship Program Director at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. She also serves as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Under her leadership, the fellowship program focuses on providing exceptional clinical training and excellence in academic development to prepare the next generation of rheumatologists.

Dr. Keller brings a distinguished background in academic medicine, clinical care and specialized research to her leadership role. Her educational journey began at Princeton University, where she graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, followed by a Master of Arts in French and romance philology from Columbia University. She completed her medical training at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, graduating at the top of her class and earning induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Dr. Keller then completed her internal medicine internship, residency and rheumatology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. She has been a practicing rheumatologist since the completion of her fellowship in 2018.

Driven by a deep passion for patient-centered care, Dr. Keller is highly regarded for her compassionate, thoughtful and communicative approach to medicine. Her clinical practice focuses on the comprehensive management of complex rheumatic diseases, where she works closely with individuals to navigate treatment pathways and improve their overall quality of life. This dedication to clinical excellence and empathetic bedside manner has consistently earned her top ratings from her patients, who frequently highlight her exceptional care and the peace of mind she brings to their treatment journey.

In addition to her clinical and administrative leadership, Dr. Keller is an accomplished researcher and educator with a dedicated focus on osteoporosis and metabolic bone diseases. She has written numerous peer-reviewed articles, clinical review articles and book chapters on topics such as gout, Paget disease and osteoporosis. Her work has centered heavily on osteoporosis and fracture risk, particularly in high-risk groups such as lung transplant patients.

Dr. Keller has a particular interest in education and teaching at all levels of training. She has developed specialized curricula, including the osteoporosis curriculum for the Association of Rheumatology Professionals' Advanced Rheumatology Online Course, and actively serves in leadership capacities for the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD). Her background as a dedicated clinician-educator and researcher directly enriches the training environment for University Hospitals fellows.
