About

Claire Irons, MD, is a pulmonary and critical care physician at University Hospitals and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Dr. Irons specializes in treating pulmonary hypertension and other types of pulmonary vascular disease. She sees patients at University Hospitals locations in Cleveland, Beachwood and Willoughby, Ohio.

A clinician, educator, researcher and presenter, Dr. Irons has a significant interest in the intersection between clinical practice and policy. She is also passionate about caring for undeserved populations, both domestic and international, to improve their access to care and decrease healthcare disparities, especially by improving prevention through education.

Dr. Irons attended University of Virginia (Charlottesville, Virginia), where she earned her Bachelor of Science in biochemistry in 2014. She then attended Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo (Buffalo, New York), where she earned her medical degree with a Master of Business Administration in 2019. Dr. Irons went on to obtain a Certificate in Principles of Medical Education at Harvard Medical School (Boston, Massachusetts) in 2021. She did her postdoctoral training at UH Cleveland Medical Center, completing an internal medicine residency in 2022 and a pulmonary/critical care fellowship in 2025.

A member of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Irons is the recipient of the Research Poster Award (2021), UH Cleveland Medical Center, Department of Medicine Research Day, among other awards and honors. She has given poster presentations at University Hospitals Department of Internal Medicine’s Research Day and annual meetings of The American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST). As a researcher, Dr. Irons has participated in studies evaluating long-term pulmonary follow-up of COVID-19 survivors and genetic factors contributing to sudden infant death syndrome, among other investigation areas.
