About

Alex Y. Huang, MD, PhD, is a pediatric hematologist-oncologist at Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital and University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. He specializes in experimental immunotherapies, translational clinical development, tumor immunology, and cellular and molecular immunology. His areas of clinical interest also include myeloid cell biology, T cell activation and CAR T /NK cellular therapy development, tumor microenvironment, cellular migration and chemokine biology, intravital imaging, and discovery science transitioning to early-phase translational immunotherapy clinical development.

Dr. Huang received a combined a Bachelor of Science/ Master of Science from University of Chicago and a combined Doctor of Medicine/Doctor of Philosophy from Johns Hopkins University. He also completed a pediatric residency and a pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship at Johns Hopkins/National Cancer Institute and a postdoctoral fellowship at National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Presently, Dr. Huang is a tenured Professor of pediatrics, pathology, biomedical engineering and general medical sciences at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He holds the Theresia G. & Stuart F. Kline Family Foundation Chair in Pediatric Oncology and serves as Director of the Center for Pediatric Immunotherapy at UH Rainbow. He is also Director of the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Prior to 2023, Dr. Huang served as the Director of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program at UH Rainbow for 16 years. Dr. Huang oversees immune-based cancer therapeutics as co-leader of the Immune Oncology Scientific Program at Case Comprehensive Cancer Center. He is an elected member of the NCI’s Pediatric and Adolescent Solid Tumor Steering Committee (PASTSC). Dr. Huang’s research focuses on exploring fundamental cellular immunology and exploiting TME vulnerabilities to control pediatric and Adolescence & Young Adult (AYA) cancers through clinical trials, with a particular emphasis on sarcoma.

Among other honors and recognitions, Dr. Huang is the recipient of the “Master Teacher” designation at the Academy of Scholar Educators, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, 2022; National Steering Committee membership, Coalition for Pediatric Medical Research (CPMR), 2021-2025; PREP Mentor Excellence of the Year, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, 2018; John S.
