Buse Guneri Beser, MD, FEBO, FICO, is an ophthalmologist at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital specializing in ocular oncology, pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus. Dr. Guneri Beser sees patients in Cleveland, Ohio, at offices at UH Cleveland Medical Center and UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital. Her clinical interests include pediatric and adult strabismus, retinoblastoma, retinopathy of prematurity, nasolacrimal duct obstruction and congenital cataracts.

Dr. Guneri Beser earned her medical degree at the University of Dokuz Eylul Faculty of Medicine (Izmir, Turkey) in 2014. Her postdoctoral training included an ophthalmology residency at the Health Sciences University Haydarpasa Numune Training and Research Hospital (Istanbul, Turkey), completed in 2019. She went on to complete an Ocular Oncology Visiting Research Scholarship and ocular oncology clinical fellowship at University of Michigan Health WK Kellogg Eye Center (Ann Arbor, Michigan) in 2025, followed by a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus completed in 2026 at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary at the University of Illinois College of Medicine (Chicago, Illinois).

Upon graduating medical school, Dr. Guneri Beser received an Academic Recognition Award, ranking third among 179 graduates in the Class of 2014. She has also earned several prestigious professional credentials, including Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO) and Fellow of the International Council of Ophthalmology (FICO). Prior to joining University Hospitals, Dr. Guneri Beser’s work experience included serving as a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist at Pendik State Hospital under the Turkish Ministry of Health in Istanbul, Turkey.

Dr. Guneri Beser is an active member of various national and international ophthalmology organizations, including the International Society of Ocular Oncology (ISOO), the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), and the Turkish Ophthalmological Association (TOA).

Dr. Guneri Beser has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in the fields of ocular oncology, retinal disease, glaucoma and refractive surgery. Her work has appeared in such leading peer-reviewed journals as American Journal of Ophthalmology, Ophthalmology Science, Retina and The Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology.

As a physician-researcher, Dr. Guneri Beser’s research focuses on such areas as ocular oncology, retinoblastoma, vitreoretinal lymphoma, choroidal melanoma, retinal imaging and treatment outcomes in ocular tumors. She has presented extensively at national and international conferences, including meetings of the International Society of Ocular Oncology, the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. Her presentations have covered such topics as choroidal melanoma, retinoblastoma, retinal capillary hemangioblastoma and treatment outcomes in ocular oncology. Dr. Guneri Beser has also delivered grand rounds presentations and departmental research posters at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center.
