About
Richard I. Grossberg, MD, is a pediatric neurodevelopmental disabilities specialist at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. He is Associate Clinical Professor, Pediatrics, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
Dr. Grossberg is board certified in pediatrics and neurodevelopmental disabilities. His special interest is children and young adults with disabilities. Through Rainbow Care, the UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital Accountable Care Organization, he leads a physician extension program for children with complex, chronic conditions funded by a $12.7 million Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovations Grant.
Dr. Grossberg received his bachelor’s degree from Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, Pa., and his medical degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, Pa. He completed a residency in pediatrics at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital.
Prior to joining the UH staff in 2000, Dr. Grossberg was in private pediatrics practice, first in Stamford, Conn., then in Beachwood, Ohio. Since 1999 he has been medical director of the Hattie Larlham Center for Children with Disabilities, Mantua, Ohio.
A dedicated researcher as well as clinician, Dr. Grossberg is participating in several clinical studies of children with cerebral palsy. His interests are focused on clinical care needs of children with medical complexity, including growth and nutrition, osteoporosis and the emotional impact of the care needs on families and caregivers. Since 2011, he has served as a board member and Head of the Section on Research of the Pediatric Complex Care Association.
Dr. Grossberg has spoken at numerous local, regional and national medical conferences about the medical needs of children with disabilities. He has published more than two dozen papers about medical problems associated with cerebral palsy and other chronic medical conditions in children. He is also trained as an adult psychoanalyst through the Cleveland Psychoanalytic Center.
He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine and the American Psychoanalytic Association.
