Neel Fotedar, MD

About

Neel Fotedar, MD, is a board certified neurologist and epileptologist at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. His clinical and research interests include overlap of myoclonus and epilepsy, use of polygraphic recordings (EEG with surface EMG) in motor seizures, genetics in epilepsy, transition of care of developmental epileptic encephalopathies from pediatrics to adult epilepsy, seizure semiology, epilepsy surgery, functional cortical mapping via direct electrical stimulation and medical education.

Dr. Fotedar completed his medical school education at Government Medical College Jammu in India, followed by a four-year residency in neurology at the UH/Case Western Reserve University program and a fellowship in clinical epilepsy at University Hospitals. During his internship with the Department of Medicine at UH and the Cleveland VA, Dr. Fotedar won the Willard A. Bernbaum Award for Intern of the Year.

Highly dedicated to providing quality medical education to medical students and residents, Dr. Fotedar has won the Medical Student Teaching Excellence Award from the Neurological Institute twice. He has also served as a chief resident for the neurology residency program at UH/Case Western Reserve University and has been part of many educational and institutional committees such as the COVID-19 preparedness policy, neurology residency program interview committee and the ACGME milestone 2.0 working group. Dr. Fotedar mentored multiple medical students and residents throughout his residency and fellowship.

Dr. Fotedar has published many articles in peer-reviewed medical journals, book chapters and multiple abstracts that have been presented at various national meetings, including American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and American Neurological Association (ANA) meetings and has multiple other research projects and manuscripts in the pipeline. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), the American Neurological Association (ANA), the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society (ACNS), the American Epilepsy Society (AES) and the Association of Indian Physicians of Northern Ohio (AIPNO).

In his free time, Dr. Fotedar enjoys watching cricket, horror/thriller movies, traveling with his wife and exploring the food scene of Cleveland. He also loves neurology trivia. He won the AAN Neurology Trainee Trivia competition held during the AAN national meeting in 2021 (and has been in the top 3 multiple times). On most occasions, Dr. Fotedar was the only one representing the U.S. in a competition dominated by Canadians.
