About
Ali Foroutan, MD, is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon with specialized training in microsurgery and craniofacial surgery. He currently serves in the Department of Plastic Surgery at University Hospitals. His clinical interests include microsurgical reconstruction, breast reconstruction, rhinoplasty, facial rejuvenation, facial feminization surgery, maxillofacial and craniofacial trauma, facial and burn reconstruction, peripheral nerve surgery, facial paralysis and lymphedema surgery.
Dr. Foroutan earned his medical degree and completed his general surgery training at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. He subsequently pursued advanced training in plastic surgery at Iran University of Medical Sciences. He completed a research fellowship (postdoctoral training) at Massachusetts General Hospital. He then went on to complete a craniofacial fellowship followed by a microsurgery fellowship at Cleveland Clinic, with a particular focus on complex reconstructive procedures. Through his training, he has gained extensive experience in microsurgery, lymphedema surgery, and head and neck reconstruction.
Throughout his career, Dr. Foroutan has been actively involved in clinical research and surgical education. His academic work includes studies in reconstructive microsurgery and surgical training methodologies, with a focus on improving outcomes and advancing resident education. He has contributed to a number of peer-reviewed publications and continues to participate in academic and clinical research initiatives.
Dr. Foroutan is committed to excellence in patient care, innovation in reconstructive surgery and mentorship of future surgeons. His interests include advancing techniques in trauma reconstruction, breast reconstruction and facial aesthetic surgery. Outside of work, Dr. Foroutan enjoys roller skating, pickleball, poetry and spending time with his family, as well as engaging in academic and global health initiatives.
