About

Michael Daunov, DO, is a hematologist with University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center and an Assistant Professor at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. Dr. Daunov sees patients at locations in Cleveland and Mentor, Ohio. His areas of expertise include adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer, leukemia, stem cell transplant and CAR T-cell therapy. As a clinician researcher, Dr. Daunov’s interests include investigating how organizational structures and healthcare access impact outcomes for adolescents and young adults with cancer. Much of his current research focuses on quantifying social disparities within AYAs and their role on treatment decisions, healthcare utilization and mortality. Before joining University Hospitals, Dr. Daunov’s professional experience included working as a Clinical Research Associate for the Leukemia Program at University of Chicago Medical Center (Chicago, Illinois).

Dr. Daunov attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (Urbana, Illinois), where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in molecular cellular biology (minor in business) in 2009. After obtaining a Master of Arts in medical sciences at Loyola University Chicago (Chicago, Illinois) in 2010, Dr. Daunov attended A.T. Still University-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (Kirksville, Missouri), earning his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in 2018. Dr. Daunov did his postdoctoral training at University Hospitals/Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine (Cleveland, Ohio), completing a residency in internal medicine and pediatrics in 2022 and a fellowship in hematology-oncology in 2025. He served as Chief Fellow during his fellowship. Also in 2025, Dr. Daunov obtained a Master of Public Health - Public Health & Epidemiology at Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown, Ohio.

Dr. Daunov is a member of the American Society of Hematology (ASH), American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO), American College of Physicians, American Academy of Pediatrics and American Medical Association. Among other awards and honors, he was selected for the University Hospitals Health Services Research Program (2023) and received the Association for Residents and Fellows Travel Award (2023). Dr. Daunov’s research has been published in various peer-reviewed journals, including American Journal of Perinatology, American Society of Clinical Oncology Educational Book, Blood Immunology & Cellular Therapy, Cells, Leukemia & Lymphoma, Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network and Nature Communications. He has delivered oral presentations, poster presentations and abstracts at annual meetings and other events held by the American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy, American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, ASCO, ASH and Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research, among others.
