About

Katherine Daunov, RN, MSN, AOCNP, is a certified nurse practitioner at University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center who specializes in hematology/oncology, young adult oncology (early-onset cancer) and oncofertility. Among other certifications and licensures, she is certified as an Adult Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center Board and as an Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner by the Oncology Nursing Society.

Daunov attended Luther College (Decorah, Iowa), where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in nursing in 2006. She went on to attend University of Illinois Chicago, where she obtained a Master of Science in nursing (specialty: adult nurse practitioner) in 2011. Daunov obtained a Palliative Care Certificate Degree from the University of Colorado (Denver, Colorado) in 2015. In 2025, she began working on her Doctor of Philosophy in nursing at University of Utah (Salt Lake City, Utah). Her research examines the influence of social connection and structural environments on stress-related gene pathways and their impact on the disease outcomes of young adult cancer survivors.

Daunov joined UH Seidman Cancer Center in 2016 as a supportive and integrative oncology nurse. In 2022, she switched her focus to providing young adult oncology and oncofertility nursing care for patients at both UH Seidman Cancer Center and UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. Prior to coming to University Hospitals, her professional posts included Assistant Professor of Nursing at Truman State University (Kirksville, Missouri); nurse practitioner (leukemia and bone marrow transplant) at University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois; and staff nurse (leukemia and bone marrow transplant) at University of Chicago Bernard Mitchell Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.

Among other awards and honors, Daunov is the recipient of the UH Cleveland Medical Center Auxiliary Grant: Social Programming to Reduce Isolation in Young Adults with Cancer and Sickle Cell Disease (2024); Educator of the Year Finalist, Truman State University, 2015; and Nurse of the Year, Leukemia Research Foundation, 2013. Professional societies in which she is a member include the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, AYA Oncology Healthcare Professionals Program Advisory Group, Americal Society of Clinical Oncologists Early Onset & AYA Practice Committee, Oncofertility Consortium, and the Oncology Nursing Society.

Daunov has served as a contributing author for a number of articles published in various peer-reviewed journals, among them BMC Palliative Care, JCI Insight, Journal of Clinical Medicine, Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, Journal of Clinical Oncology: Oncology Practice, The Oncologist, Nutrients and Supportive Care in Cancer. She has delivered poster and abstract presentations at annual meetings of the American Society of Clinical Oncologists, American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, Global Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Congress, Oncofertility Consortium and Oncology Nursing Society, among others.
