About

Stephen Bowen, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon at University Hospitals and an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He specializes in the treatment of hip and knee arthritis, offering expertise in hip replacement, total and partial knee replacement, and revision surgery for failed joint replacements.

Dr. Bowen utilizes advanced techniques – including anterior approach hip replacement, enhanced recovery pathways and computer-assisted navigation – to help optimize outcomes and return to activity. He places a strong emphasis on patient communication and education, ensuring that individuals feel informed and supported throughout both surgical and non-surgical treatment. His goal is simple: to restore function, relieve pain and help patients return to the activities they enjoy most.

Originally from Avon, Ohio, Dr. Bowen earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and his medical degree from the University of Virginia. He completed his orthopedic residency at Stony Brook University Hospital in New York, followed by fellowship training in complex primary and revision joint reconstruction at Northwestern University.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Bowen enjoys hiking and running, as well as cooking and traveling with his wife.
