  • Assistant Professor, CWRU School of Medicine

Françoise Adan, MD, is the Chief Whole Health and Well-Being Officer for University Hospitals Health System and the Director of UH Connor Whole Health based in Cleveland, Ohio.

Dr. Adan holds the Christopher M. & Sara H. Connor Chair in Integrative Health. Through her skilled leadership, Dr. Adan created and is successfully directing a system-wide initiative where state-of-the-art medical care is integrated with innovative, evidence-based therapies and services to bring optimal health and well-being to all patients and employees. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Adan spearheaded UH4YOU, a new system-wide program designed to provide practical resources and compassionate support for UH’s 30,000-plus caregivers during this challenging time and beyond.

With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Adan encourages clients and patients to understand the critical connection between the mind, body and spirit. In her early years of medical practice, she recognized the limitations of traditional medicine and embraced the benefits of a more integrative approach. Trained in psychiatry and board certified in holistic and integrative medicine, Dr. Adan specializes in three areas: stress management, work/life balance, and the mind/body/spirit connection. Dr. Adan is a frequent presenter on the importance of utilizing integrative medicine to maintain optimal health.

Dr. Adan earned her medical degree from Université libre de Bruxelles in Belgium, followed by three years working in the field of family medicine. She immigrated to the United States in 1987 and completed a residency in psychiatry at the Cleveland Clinic in 1996. She became board certified in psychiatry in 1997.

In addition to her work with University Hospitals, Dr. Adan is the Immediate Past Chair of the Board of the Directors of the Academic Consortium of Integrative Medicine and Health, Advisory Board Member for the Susan and Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences at the University of California, Irvine, and Assistant Professor at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Industry Relationships

University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. These practitioner-industry relationships assist in developing new drugs, devices and therapies and in providing medical education aimed at improving quality of care and enhancing clinical outcomes. At the same time, UH understands that these relationships may create a conflict of interest. In providing this information, UH desires to assist patients in talking with their practitioners about industry relationships and how those relationships may impact their medical care.

UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
