About

Ademola K. Abiose, MD, FACC, FASE, is an expert cardiologist at University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute. He is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease, with additional certification in adult echocardiography and nuclear cardiology.

Dr. Abiose earned his medical degree from the University of Lagos in Nigeria. While there, he also completed a master’s degree in pharmacology. His postdoctoral training began with an internal medicine residency at Lagos University Teaching Hospital before coming to the United States to participate in the Merck, Sharp & Dohme Post-Doctoral Research fellowship in clinical pharmacology at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, California. He then further enhanced his skills with a residency and cardiology fellowship at the University of Connecticut Hospitals in Farmington.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Abiose volunteered as a medical officer in the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps to Sierra-Leone. He has also served as assistant professor at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska and associate professor at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, educating future physicians.

Dr. Abiose has contributed to the field of cardiovascular medicine with publications in medical journals and presentations at professional conferences on topics related to the diagnosis and treatment of atrial fibrillation, heart failure, venous disease and hypertension. He has special expertise and clinical interest in Fabry disease, a rare genetic disorder that affects a person’s heart, kidneys and central nervous system. His particular focus on Fabry cardiomyopathy has led to a better understanding of treatment timing and benefits, with publications in the Journal of Medical Genetics and Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

Dr. Abiose has practiced cardiovascular medicine as part of North Ohio Heart, Inc. for more than 13 years. He is a member of respected national organizations including the Association of Black Cardiologists and Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography. He is also a fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and American Society of Echocardiography (FASE).
