About

Mohamed Abdel Halim, MD, MSc, PhD, FRCSC, is a cardiac surgeon at University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute and serves as Director of Cardiac Surgery at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center.

Dr. Abdel Halim is committed to delivering advanced, personalized care for individuals facing complex aortic diseases with exceptional outcomes. His young patients benefit from the Ross procedure, which has allowed them to live healthy and active lives. Dr. Abdel Halim’s expertise also includes complex aortic root and arch surgeries, complex dissection and endovascular approaches. Patients who need surgical intervention for infective endocarditis, redo cardiac surgeries, and reconstructive valve surgeries benefit from Dr. Abdel Halim’s surgical care. Dr. Abdel Halim plays an important role in the structural heart team, which offers percutaneous solutions for aortic, mitral and tricuspid valve conditions.

Dr. Abdel Halim earned his medical degree from Kasr AlEini Medical School at the University of Cairo in Egypt. His postdoctoral training included a residency in cardiovascular surgery at Cairo University Hospitals, followed by a clinical fellowship in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at Nasser Institute Hospitals. Dr. Abdel Halim also earned a doctorate (PhD) in cardiothoracic surgery from Menoufia University in Egypt. He then completed a cardiovascular surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, where he served as chief fellow, and a clinical fellowship in cardiac surgery at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada.

Dr. Abdel Halim has over 20 years of experience as a cardiac surgeon. Prior to joining University Hospitals, he served as Director of the Cardiac Surgery Division at the University of Sherbrooke in Quebec, Canada. During his tenure there, he also served as Director of the Aortic Center, Co-Director of the Structural Heart Program, and Assistant Professor of Surgery.

In addition to his large surgical practice, Dr. Abdel Halim is an active member of distinguished professional organizations such as the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) and Canadian Thoracic Aortic Collaborative. He has also been recognized as a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC).
