About

Nidal AL Deek, MD, MSc, is an internationally distinguished plastic and reconstructive surgeon who blends rigorous science with restorative artistry. Since joining University Hospitals (UH) in 2022, he has become a trusted resource for patients requiring the most complex microsurgical interventions. His expertise spans breast reconstruction and enhancement, limb salvage and functional reconstruction, lymphedema surgery, and comprehensive head and neck reconstruction — including oncologic reconstruction after complex ablation and facial reanimation following ballistic and traumatic injuries — alongside aesthetic procedures for the breast, face and body.

A Legacy of Global Excellence
Dr. AL Deek completed a rare, intense five-year advanced fellowship in reconstructive microsurgery and super microsurgery at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan — the #1-ranked program worldwide and the global “Mecca” of microsurgery. In addition to fellowship training, he earned a Master of Science in Reconstructive Microsurgery. He spent over 11 years at Chang Gung, where he trained and mentored numerous international surgeons in the art and science of reconstructive microsurgery, including many who now lead specialized units in the U.S. and other countries.

Redefining the “Impossible” Case
Driven by the belief that no case is beyond hope, Dr. AL Deek excels in high-stakes salvage scenarios. He employs cutting-edge super-microsurgical techniques — operating on vessels smaller than a millimeter — to restore form and function in challenging situations, including:

  • Breast Reconstruction & Aesthetic Enhancement: Harmonizing natural aesthetics with oncologic recovery.

  • Limb Salvage and Functional Reconstruction: Preserving mobility and preventing amputation.

  • Head and Neck Reconstruction: Advanced restoration after complex cancer ablation and ballistic/traumatic injuries.

  • Facial Reanimation: Restoring expression and symmetry through precise nerve and muscle transfers.

  • Lymphedema Management: Providing life-changing physiological solutions.

Academic Leadership and Innovation
Dr. AL Deek serves as a Panel Chair for the World Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery and is an active member of the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery. His work appears regularly in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery — the field’s premier journal — and he has contributed chapters to landmark plastic surgery textbooks.

The Philosophy of Precision
Outside the operating room, Dr. AL Deek finds balance through narrative writing, deep reading, calisthenics and swimming, gourmet cooking, travel and beekeeping — a pursuit that mirrors the patience and steady hand essential to microsurgery. These pursuits sharpen the resilience and empathy he brings to every patient. For Dr. AL Deek, surgery is more than a procedure: It is a trusting partnership built on clear communication and the shared goal of reclaiming quality of life.

Dr. Al Deek is a remarkable doctor. My daughter recommended me to him and I was extremely impressed on how well he took care of her. So I decided to see him and he immediately showed concerned and helped to develop a plan for better care. I'm very happy I met with him. Now I feel more at ease about my care.

Excellent experience! I was very nervous! MD listened and explained procedure. MD's nurse was super sweet, professional and kind. Her name was ***. I also noticed MD and *** appeared to have a good working relationship. That to me is very important that staff are friendly and able to work together.
