Bio

Eric H. Beck, DO, MPH, is the Chief Operating Officer of University Hospitals Health System. Prior to becoming COO, Dr. Beck served as President of UH Ventures - the innovation, commercialization, and venturing division of the UH system.

Dr. Beck has more than 20 years of experience as a leader in health care delivery and integrated systems of care. He brings deep expertise in health care operations, post-acute care, population health, physician practice management, clinical innovation, digital health and value-based payment. Dr. Beck has a solid track record of business innovation and success. He joined UH from the University of North Texas Health Science Center where he served as President and CEO for the UNT Health clinical enterprise, as well as Associate Professor and Chair for the Department of Emergency Medicine and Associate Professor of Public Health.

Previously he was a senior executive for Envision Healthcare, a Denver-headquartered, Fortune 500, publicly traded health care services organization. He served both as Envision Healthcare’s CEO for Integrated Delivery and President and CEO of the Evolution Health subsidiary. Prior to his tenure at Envision Healthcare, Dr. Beck served as Medical Director for the City of Chicago and as full-time faculty at the University of Chicago where he was the Assistant Residency Program Director for Emergency Medicine. Dr. Beck began his professional career training in the UH system as a paramedic and also served as firefighter/paramedic with both the Russell Township and Willoughby Hills Fire Departments.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree at John Carroll University and medical degree at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his emergency medicine training and chief residency at the University of Chicago Medical Center, his EMS Fellowship with the Chicago Fire Department and earned a master’s degree in Healthcare Management for Populations at Loyola University Chicago in Chicago. He is active in professional associations, serves on several boards and maintains a part-time clinical practice at Cleveland Medical Center.

Dr. Beck is an accomplished speaker and policy adviser lecturing nationally and serving on multiple national, regional and local committees and boards. He has been recognized widely for his clinical and administrative accomplishments, most recently as a national industry leader by both Modern Healthcare and Managed Healthcare Executive.
