Outpatient Program Provides Expert, Intensive Care for Patients Suffering From Mood Disorders

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, approximately 20.9 million American adults, or about 9.5 percent of the U.S. population age 18 and older in a given year, have a mood disorder. The Intensive Outpatient Psychiatric (IOP) Program is a multidisciplinary, cognitive-behavioral, group-based treatment program for people who have a mood disorder or who need a transition from a more intensive setting. Mood disorders include major depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders and post partum depression.

Candidates for Intensive Outpatient Psychiatric Program

The IOP program is intended for people 18 years or older who have a primary psychiatric diagnosis of a mood or anxiety disorder. Appropriate candidates for the program have some impairment in their day-to-day functioning, yet still are motivated to change and make a commitment to treatment. IOP patients are capable of independent functioning and most work or attend college when they are not attending the program. For patients experiencing a mental health crisis, the caring intensive mood disorder team is ready to help them with treatment.

Program Guides Patients Toward Self-Management of Mood Disorders

The IOP process begins with a comprehensive assessment with the patient and/or a person close to him or her (such as a spouse or parent). The program emphasizes self-management, patient education, family involvement, and goal setting to manage symptoms and help the patient return to normal daily functioning.

Our IOP treatment team consists of behavioral health professionals with extensive experience in treating mood disorders along with medication management. Group size ranges from four to 12 patients, which allows individuals to receive personal attention in their recovery.

Hours for the IOP program are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
