Comprehensive Curriculum for Family Medicine Residency at UH Parma Medical Center
Our program is designed to maximize the residents time with us. In three years, we have a lot of ground to cover. Thus, our program wants hard workers. Within the guidelines of the ACOFP and AOA, we strive to maximize time on inpatient rotations as well as in the outpatient clinic. To that end, we are also adjusting our curriculum to be ready for the merger with the ACGME. Currently, first year residents will spend the majority of time on inpatient rotations with one ½ day per week reserved for didactics and another for clinic patients. During the second year, the clinic hours increase to one whole day per week, and by the third year, 2 to 3 whole days. Adjustments to this schedule are made for “away” rotations and special circumstances. We try to provide a set schedule yet allow opportunity for flexibility. Lastly, we expect and respect teamwork, honesty and dedication.
As our program grows, plans are being laid for additional special activities. Research activities are expected on a yearly basis for all residents and avenues and opportunities are available to help. Volunteerism at community health fairs, hunger centers and sports events are all available.
