About
Akina Tamaki, MD, is a board-eligible otolaryngologist and head and neck surgeon with fellowship training in head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstructive surgery. Her special interests include head and neck cancer and microvascular reconstruction. She also has interest in treating various other head and neck ailments, including thyroid and parathyroid disease, skin cancers, paraganglioma and salivary gland diseases. She is also certified in transoral robotic surgery.
Dr. Tamaki has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and books. She is a reviewer in journals such as Oral Oncology. Her research interests include improving outcomes of complex head and neck reconstruction and improving the quality of care for head and neck cancer patients. She is also passionate about medical education and training future otolaryngologists. Dr. Tamaki joined the faculty in 2020.
She is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and the American Head and Neck Society.
Dr. Tamaki has a bachelor’s degree from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and earned her medical degree from University of Maryland in Baltimore. She completed her residency at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. She then completed a fellowship in Head and Neck Oncology and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery at The Ohio State University in Columbus.
