About
Igo B. Ribeiro, MD, MS, FRCSC, is a cardiac surgeon at University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute.
Dr. Ribeiro earned his medical degree from the Federal University of Ceara in Brazil. His postdoctoral training included a general surgery residency at IAMSPE Hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and a cardiovascular surgery residency at Messejana Hospital in Fortaleza, Brazil. He then completed an advanced cardiac surgery fellowship followed by a vascular and endovascular fellowship at the University of Toronto in Canada.
Dr. Ribeiro continued his advanced training with a residency in cardiac surgery at Ottowa Hospital in Canada and a minimally invasive and robotic cardiac surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. Additionally, Dr. Ribeiro earned a Master of Science in Health Professional Education from Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions in Boston.
Dr. Ribeiro’s areas of expertise include coronary artery bypass surgery, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, ventricular assist devices (VADs), atrial fibrillation surgery and heart valve procedures.
Dr. Ribeiro has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and presented at cardiovascular professional conferences on various topics related to techniques in cardiac surgery. He is a member of nationally distinguished organizations including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery and Canadian Cardiovascular Society. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Dr. Ribeiro is bilingual, fluent in both English and Portuguese.
