Amy Middleman, MD

Amy Beth Middleman, MD, MSEd, MPH, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained pediatric and adolescent medicine physician and chief of the division of academic pediatrics & adolescent medicine at University Hospitals Babies & Children’s. Her special clinical interests include disordered eating, gender-affirming care and diagnostic dilemmas for the adolescent patient.

Dr. Middleman obtained her undergraduate training at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree. She went on to earn her Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While still in medical school, Dr. Middleman began an additional course of study to earn a Master of Science in Education, at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. After completing a pediatric residency at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois (Northwestern University), she further advanced her training at Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts where she completed a clinical fellowship in adolescent medicine and earned a Master of Public Health degree.

Before joining the faculty at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s, Dr. Middleman briefly served as an attending physician at Boston Children’s Hospital, then for over 16 years at Texas Children’s Hospital. From 2013 through the first part of 2023, she held multiple leadership and directorial roles at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and Health Sciences Center (OUHSC). She developed clinical programs for adolescents including the Disordered Eating Program, The Roy G. Biv Program for gender-affirming care and the Young Women’s Health Program. She also created the first Adolescent Medicine Fellowship program in over 20 years during her tenure at OUHSC.

An accomplished and prolific educator, presenter, researcher and writer, Dr. Middleman lectures locally, nationally and internationally on topics related to her expertise. She is also the author and co-author of hundreds of peer-reviewed articles, abstracts and book chapters and has developed teaching materials for both medical students and residents.

Dr. Middleman is a member in good standing of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine, the North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, the American Pediatric Society and the Society for Pediatric Research.
