About
Daniel Killeen, MD, specializes in neurotology/otology and skull base surgery, including medical and surgical treatment of diseases and tumors of the ear and lateral skull base, as well as hearing and vestibular disorders at University Hospitals in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. He has an Assistant Professor appointment with Case Western Reserve University Medical School. Dr. Killeen is dual board certified in otolaryngology/head and neck surgery, and neurotology and otology (adult and pediatric). He is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the American Neurotologic Society.
Dr. Killeen has expertise in endoscopic ear surgery. In addition to performing surgical approaches for lateral skull base tumors such as acoustic neuromas/vestibular schwannomas, he also has training in Gamma Knife radiosurgery for lateral skull base lesions. Dr. Killeen’s clinical interests include: acoustic neuroma/vestibular schwannoma treatment, both microsurgical resection and radiosurgery; endoscopic ear surgery for surgical treatment of hearing disorders such as stapedotomy for otosclerosis; cochlear implantation; treatment of chronic ear disease; and skull base surgery including surgical treatment of tumors of the ear.
Daniel Killeen is a graduate of Harvard University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Molecular and Cellular Biology (cum laude with departmental high honors), and then earned his Doctorate of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Killeen subsequently completed an otolaryngology residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in neurotology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He joins UH most recently from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he served as an Assistant Professor and the Director of Endoscopic Ear Surgery.
Dr. Killeen has authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and has given multiple presentations at national scientific meetings on topics in otology and neurotology. His research interests include endoscopic ear surgery as well as the natural history and treatment of acoustic neuromas/vestibular schwannomas, with a particular interest in developing new medical treatments for vestibular schwannomas.
Outside of work, Dr. Killeen enjoys skiing, traveling, and trying new foods and recipes with his wife.
