About
Mohammad El Diasty, MD, MSc, PhD, FRCS, FEBTCVS, FACC, is an adult cardiac surgeon at University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute.Dr. El Diasty earned his medical degree with honors from Mansoura University in Egypt. His postdoctoral training included a residency in cardiovascular surgery at University Hospital in La Coruna, Spain, followed by a cardiac surgery fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Dr. El Diasty obtained a master’s degree in cardiovascular sciences from the University of Miguel Hernandez in Spain. He also earned a PhD in cardiac surgery with honors from the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain, focusing on the molecular basis of local inflammatory changes associated with cardiac surgery.
Dr. El Diasty further honed his skills by completing three advanced cardiac surgery subspecialty fellowships that covered mitral surgery, aortic surgery and multi-arterial off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire, the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust, and Oxford University Hospital in the United Kingdom. He finished his training with an additional specialized fellowship in structural heart disorders and minimally invasive cardiac surgery, and was appointed chief fellow, at Kingston General Hospital/Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada.
Dr. El Diasty’s areas of expertise and clinical interest include on-pump and off-pump total arterial coronary artery bypass surgery, aortic valve surgery, mitral valve surgery, tricuspid valve surgery, aortic dissection surgery, aortic arch surgery and atrial fibrillation surgery. In addition to his surgical practice, he is an avid researcher studying the molecular basis and prevention of postoperative atrial fibrillation as well as inflammatory response after cardiac surgery. He has also contributed to the field of cardiothoracic surgery with more than 70 journal publications and conference presentations.
Throughout the past decade, Dr. El Diasty has been heavily involved in organizing and delivering multiple teaching programs for junior trainees, medical students, nursing staff and surgical nurse practitioners. Programs focused on development of clinical and scientific knowledge, and ultimately supported securing and maintaining very high-quality patient outcomes.
For dedication to his profession, Dr. El Diasty has been inducted as a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Cardiothoracic Surgery of Edinburgh (FRCS-CTh), European Board of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (FEBTCVS) and the American College of Cardiology (FACC).

We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
