Pursuing a Cure for Childhood Cancers

Yamilet Huerta, MD, pediatric hematologist/ oncologist at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, was one of just seven fellows in the country awarded grant support from the St. Baldrick’s Foundation in 2018. The award of more than $180,000 is advancing Dr. Huerta’s innovative immunotherapy research aimed at treating acute myeloid leukemia, the second most common leukemia in children.

St. Baldrick’s has awarded UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s more than $1 million to date in support of childhood cancer research. In recognition, last year the foundation was inducted into UH’s Samuel Mather Society.
