A Last Wish to Support Cancer Care

While undergoing treatment for leukemia in October 2017, Ilene Hardy was admitted to UH Seidman Cancer Center with pneumonia. Sadly, she was unable to recover and passed away.

“All the nurses we interacted with were just angels,” said her husband, Richard, who is a member of the Seidman Cancer Leadership Council as well as the Diamond Legacy and Samuel Mather societies. “After each treatment, they would wrap her up and give her a big hug. It meant so much.”

Reflecting on their frequent discussions about supporting the hospital, Richard made planned gifts totaling more than $1 million to UH Seidman Cancer Center in 2018. A plaque in memory of Ilene will be placed in UH Seidman Cancer Center’s sixth floor family suite area. “I think Ilene would be very happy about this gift if she were here,” shared Richard.
