Study Purpose

Statins are used to lower the level of bad cholesterol (LDL-C) in the body. They prevent heart attacks, strokes, and slow the progression of heart disease in those at high risk or who have already had these problems. The possible benefits of taking a statin for people 75 years or older who don't have heart disease are not fully understood. The purpose of PREVENTABLE is to learn if taking a statin could help older adults live well for longer by preventing dementia, disability, or heart disease.
