Study Purpose

We’re inviting you to learn about a study that will test a vaccine given during pregnancy to protect newborns from a bacteria called Group B streptococcus, or GBS. About 1 in 5 pregnant women carry GBS, and it can cause serious illness in newborns. Vaccines given during pregnancy work by helping the mother’s body make antibodies, which then pass to the baby through the placenta, and can help protect the baby from infections after birth. Vaccines given during pregnancy have been used safely for many years. Dr. Emily Hamburg-Shields, MD, PhD, and the Department of OB/GYN are conducting this research study in partnership with Senders Pediatrics. To join, you must plan to deliver your baby at University Hospitals MacDonald Women’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.
