Study Purpose

Keratoconus is a vision disorder that occurs when the normally round cornea (the front part of the eye) becomes thin and irregularly (cone) shaped. This abnormal shape prevents the light entering the eye from being focused correctly and causes distortion of vision. There have been several studies that have already determined some inherited links (passed down in families) to getting keratoconus. The purpose of this research study is to collect information from keratoconus patients and from patients without keratoconus, so that researchers can find genetic risk factors that may lead to this disease.
