Robert J. Klonk is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Unison Risk Advisors and Oswald Companies, one of the nation’s largest privately held and employee owned, insurance brokerage and risk management consulting firms.
A leader in the insurance field for more than 40 years, Klonk led the 2020 creation of Unison Risk Advisors, formed by the merger of Oswald and RCM&D, a Baltimore, Maryland based risk and insurance firm. With an entrepreneurial approach, Unison is poised for expansive growth.
Klonk demonstrates a steadfast commitment to the advancement of the industry at large and is an advocate for the critical role of the independent broker and advisor.
Klonk previously served as Chairman of The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers (CIAB) and currently holds a position on the Executive Committee of the Board. He previously served as the Chairman of the Board of Assurex Global, an exclusive partnership of the most prominent privately held brokers in the world. He has served both organizations in membership and leadership capacities for more than 20 years. He has previously served as Chairman of The Council of Employee Benefits Executives in Washington D.C., and Council PAC, a Political Action Committee that serves the broker community and employers.
Built on a solid history of developing and implementing breakthrough solutions to meet both the current and future needs of employers, Klonk continues to be a prominent thought leader in the industry. He is a frequent speaker and panelist and has been the recipient of various business and leadership recognitions throughout his career. As a mark of his success and visionary approach, in 2013, the same year Klonk was appointed to the position of Chief Executive Officer of Oswald, he was recognized as one of the Top 100 “Insurance Industry Game Changers” in the last century, by Leader’s Edge Magazine and CIAB. In 2022, Klonk received the Dick Pogue Award from the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association for his leadership in business and unrivaled commitment to the betterment of the community.
He exemplifies Oswald’s core value of “Commitment to Community,” serving as Chairman of the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission. Klonk also serves on the board of the Greater Cleveland Partnership, and the Cleveland Leadership Center, among various board appointments and leadership positions he has held with nonprofits throughout his career to include Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED), Business Volunteers Unlimited (BVU), and National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
