Zoster Eye Disease Study (ZEDS)

Purpose of Study

To determine if prolonged suppressive valacyclovir treatment reduces complications of HZO, including chronic eye disease and postherpetic neuralgia, when compared to placebo. This study has been funded by the National Eye Institute.

Basic Eligibility Criteria

• Rash from shingles over eye
• Certain types of eye disease from shingles affecting the cornea within the past year
• Age 18 years or older
