Education & Training

Breast Centers

The fellows rotate between Breen, the main campus Breast Center, UH Ahuja and UH Minoff Breast Centers on the Eastside (they will merge into one new Breast Center in 2023) and Maltby Breast Center at UH St. John Medical Center on the Westside, spending a week at each location.

We are excited to announce our new multidisciplinary UH Ahuja Breast Center projected to open in the Summer of 2023. The 16,000 square foot center will consist of six mammography rooms, five ultrasound suites and three reading rooms with six workstations. Imaging will include screening and diagnostic mammography and ultrasound. Breast biopsies and localizations will be performed using ultrasound and the upright Affirm unit. The Center will be staffed with three breast imagers, a fellow and possibly one or two radiology residents. We will be working in close proximity with our surgical and oncological breast colleagues.

All of the Breast Centers perform screening and diagnostic mammograms, ultrasounds and image guided-procedures. Breast MRIs are read predominantly on main campus.

Conferences and Training

The ultimate goal is for the breast imaging fellows to assume the role of primary imager with the faculty person as a supervisor. The breast imaging division has a very strong interest in fellow and resident education and clinical research is encouraged.

Fellows are actively involved in the interpretation of examinations, performance of procedures and consultation with referring physicians. There is one weekly multidisciplinary tumor board conference attended by the fellows and a faculty member. Other conferences include the monthly radiology-pathology conference, monthly journal club and bi-monthly resident conferences.

As a breast imaging fellow, dedicated research time is negotiable, and there is access to Case Center for Imaging Research (CCIR), which is a joint venture between Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and UH Cleveland Medical Center. There is funding available for educational meetings/conferences.

Weekend responsibilities are optional. They consist of a 7 hour shifts on Saturday and Sunday covering general radiology, ER and in-patient lists without procedures. If a fellow is interested in working weekends to keep up their general radiology skills, they will be financially compensated.
