In addition, our highly-trained physicians and scientists hold full-time faculty appointments at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and oversee activities of the Visual Sciences Research Center and Visual Sciences Training Program. The Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine ranks 5th in funding from the National Eye Institute. Major areas of research include:

The Eye Institute is also home to two state-of-the-art image reading centers – the Retinal Disease Image Analysis Reading Center (REDIARC) and the Cornea Image Analysis Reading Center (CIARC) (formerly the Specular Microscopy Reading Center [SMRC]) – that provide imaging data for both federal and corporate clinical trials across the country.

Our physicians also work in partnership with the greater Cleveland community through volunteerism, committee memberships and service as board members and trustees. Our outreach includes the Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland, Cleveland Eye Bank, Cleveland Sight Center, Free Clinic, Ohio Lions, and Prevent Blindness Ohio, which provides over 1,000 free eye exams per year to people without health insurance.
