Muscle Disease Program

The Muscle Disease Program is sponsored by The Muscular Disease Society of Northeastern Ohio, a United Way of Greater Cleveland partner agency. The program has been in existence since the 1950s and has served thousands of patients with neuromuscular diseases such as muscular dystrophy, metabolic myopathies, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, and spinal muscular atrophy.

We are able to provide medical care for both pediatric and adult patients with neuromuscular diseases by performing individual assessments and confirming a diagnosis. A rehabilitative treatment/management plan is developed specifically for each individual patient in order to maintain function for as long as possible.

The mission of the program is to provide quality medical care for patients and families affected by neuromuscular diseases in order to allow for the highest possible quality of life. We strive to educate patients and families about their diseases and improve the management of muscle disease for all of our patients.

The Muscle Disease Program operates at the main campus of University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and offers physician services, rehabilitation services from a physical therapist and medical services such as orthotics, laboratory, pulmonary medicine, genetics, surgery, and others as needed. Services are coordinated within the program in order to provide optimal care as well as convenience to the patient.
