University Hospitals Researchers Explore Connection Between Music, Science and Medicine

Researchers from University Hospitals Neurological Institute’s Music & Medicine Center work together with experts from University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine to cover the entire spectrum of music and medicine — from perception of music, speech and voice, to memory and motor performance. This includes studying:

  • The neurological mechanisms of production and perception of music
  • The effects of music on neurological development and disease healing
  • The “Mozart Effect,” which describes music’s potential to enhance intelligence and development in young children
  • The relationship between music, memory and learning
  • Nurture vs. nature (education vs. talent)
  • How music can affect an individual’s emotions and mood
  • Brain processing and music perception
