Music and Medicine Center Menu
Musicians can develop unique medical problems that can be devastating to their musical abilities and careers. University Hospitals Neurological Institute established the Music & Medicine Center to address this specific area of concern and to help patients using the proven healing abilities of music.
A wide spectrum of medical problems can negatively impact musical abilities. Such problems include tinnitus, voice and throat disorders, hearing and vision problems, memory loss, neuromuscular disorders, psychiatric issues and breathing problems.
As a UH-designated Center of Excellence, the Music & Medicine Center brings together leading experts from a variety of disciplines. They collaborate using the latest clinical advances and technologies. Many are involved in nationally funded research that may lead to future innovations in medical care.
The Music & Medicine Center covers the full spectrum of care, including the patient’s perception of music, speech and voice, memory and motor performance. Through our Music and Medicine Wellness Program, we offer all patient services relevant to music-related medical problems.
With the increased attention placed on wellness and alternative medicine, incorporating the healing power of music into the patient experience is both natural and at the leading edge of clinical practice. Through coordinated efforts in patient care, research, teaching and technology development, the center is focused on pioneering new discoveries involving the intersection of music and medicine.
In collaboration with University Hospitals Case Medical Center and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, the center is dedicated to:
