Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship

University Hospitals Trains Cardiologists for Excellence in Clinical Practice, Scientific Research and Academia

The Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio trains highly competent clinical cardiologists. After completing the fellowship program, participants are ready for an independent cardiovascular practice.

The three-year Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship at UH helps equip graduate physicians to provide evidence-based prevention, evaluation and management of a wide variety of cardiovascular disorders. The fellowship program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and administered through Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

The Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship provides options for an additional fourth and fifth year dedicated to research. This year of scientific discovery allows fellows to strengthen the foundation necessary to become successful physician-scientists or to pursue careers in academia.

Fellows generally pursue one of two tracks:

  • The clinician-scientist track, which focuses on a cardiovascular subspecialty and includes additional fellowship training
  • The physician-investigator track that includes nine months of dedicated research time in the third year and an additional year or more in the research lab

Both fellowship tracks offer comprehensive training in all major aspects of clinical cardiology.

When paired with the mentored academic/research experience, the Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship offers one of the most comprehensive, well-rounded programs in the U.S. Our goal is to produce fellows with the technical and intellectual tools required to become recognized global leaders in cardiology.

Clinical Rotations Provide Volumes of Experience

  • Echocardiography/imaging
  • Cardiac catheterization
  • Consults
  • Electrophysiology
