Intragastric Balloon

Intragastric Balloon for Weight Loss

The intragastric balloon is an endoscopic procedure where patients can expect to lose 25 to 30 percent of their excess weight.

This operation is done on an outpatient basis and patients can typically go home the same day.

An Inflatable Balloon Leads to Weight Loss

The physician will insert a deflated balloon through the mouth and into the stomach. It is then filled with a sterile water solution until it is about the size of a grapefruit. Then entire procedure usually takes only 20 to 30 minutes. The balloon is left in the stomach for six months and then removed using the same technique as the placement.
