Lung Cancer Screening Program

Low-dose CT Scan Lung Cancer Screening

University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center is pleased to offer low-dose CT imaging for lung cancer screening.

UH Seidman Cancer Center knows that the best chance of cure is early detection; therefore, we are offering the low-dose CT scan for lung cancer screening at $99 for those who for those between the ages of 55-77 who do not have Medicare or insurance coverage. For those with Medicare, the screening test is free if you meet the criteria. We want to make this available because lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death in both men and women and is typically diagnosed at a more advanced stage after it has spread. By making lung cancer screening affordable, we can diagnose earlier, determine the best treatment and affect many patients' health particularly in Northeast Ohio where there is a higher than average incidence of lung cancer.

UH Seidman Cancer Center is helping to catch lung cancer in its early stages with CT scans.

Benefits of Lung Cancer Screening

The low-dose CT scan lung cancer screening has been shown in a recent National Cancer Institute study to reduce the risk of dying from lung cancer by 20 percent in middle age and elderly smokers. The NCI's National Lung Screening Trial involved more than 53,000 current and former heavy smokers. The CT scan is a rapid, non-invasive lung cancer test that uses low-dose x-rays to produce detailed, three-dimensional images of the lungs. The entire chest is scanned between 7 and 15 seconds.
