Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship

University Hospitals Provides Fellows with Comprehensive Training for Careers in Academic Gynecologic Oncology

The University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center fellowship program in Gynecologic Oncology is a three-year program designed to train physicians who have completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology for careers in academic gynecologic oncology. The fellowship is supported by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and is affiliated with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center.

Goals of Fellowship Training

The Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship is designed to produce clinicians who:

  • Have a breadth and depth of surgical and clinical expertise to make them outstanding clinicians
  • Possess the knowledge base, analytical skill, creative thinking and investigative experience in translational or clinically-based investigation that will poise them to become productive junior faculty investigators after their fellowship
  • Fully understand that humanism, compassion and respect are core elements of outstanding clinical care and are also values essential to any collaborative work

Three-Year Fellowship

One year of the fellowship is devoted to acquiring basic, clinical or epidemiologic research skills under the mentorship of research and teaching faculty at UH Cleveland Medical Center and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Two additional years of the fellowship involve clinical training on the gynecologic oncology services primarily within UH Seidman Cancer Center, as well as rotations in:

  • Urology
  • Colorectal surgery
  • Radiation oncology
  • Surgical critical care
